Today was one of the longest days of my life. I ran through a whole laundry list of things I wanted to write here. But, then I looked at a post I wrote the other night and my car troubles seem like NOTHING compared to what is going on in the world.
Sunday was National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
There are over 27,000,000–that’s 27 million–slaves today. That is more than the entirety of the time before slavery was “abolished.” That number makes me vomit. That number enrages me. It makes me want to cause physical harm to the kidnappers/slave owners. Instead I will raise awareness and and do the worst thing to them: PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS. They are morally depraved. Money means more than anything to them.
The problem with slaves today is that it’s not only one race that is enslaved. Back in the 1800’s, you could travel through the Southern US states, and you could pick out the slaves easily. They were African in descent, and many times they were shackled. Today, slaves have the appearance of freedom. They can be found in massage parlors. They are the Asian men and women who do your nails in nail salons. They are the kids who were ‘adopted’ from Haiti by nice families who are ‘saving’ them from poverty, living in very small rooms, not allowed to attend school because they are too busy cleaning, doing laundry, cooking from morning to night. They are the scantily clad women from Eastern Europe who are walking the streets of the US, Greece, Asia and Dubai, forced to prostitute themselves.
They problem with modern day slavery is that we’re all guilty of funding it.
